Dune restoration- Planting of native species in the Coastal Dunes between 80th and 81st and Collins.
WHEN: Saturday, June 4th, 2011, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Here in South Florida, many of our coastal dunes have become invaded with non-native species dramatically reducing their effectiveness. Healthy dunes are needed not only to retain sand in wind and storm events, but also to provide a unique habitat for plants and animals indigenous to the area. This is part of Surfrider’s ongoing Great Dune Restoration Project http://www.miamisurfrider.org/chapter-initiatives-2/dune-restorations/
PARKING: Metered spaces & parking lots in the immediate area.
WE’VE GOT: Gloves, healthy snacks, cold water, equipment, training and oversight of the work, waiver forms, and community service credits.
WE NEED: You! Your family and friends who want to enjoy a beautiful morning at the beach! Wear solid shoes.
